Beyond Wabi-sabi and Microcement: How Restrained Spaces Retain Warmth

Introduction

HOUTU is interested less in a visual label than in an attitude: allowing materials to change, reducing unnecessary gestures and making room for light, touch and time.

Restraint Is Not Emptiness

Open space needs accurate proportion between walls, openings, furniture and the body. Removing function without planning only pushes clutter back into view.

Material Needs Layers, Not One Texture

The contrast between mineral surfaces, wood, stone, metal and textiles creates warmth through controlled boundaries and proportion.

Time Is Also a Material

Wood that ages, surfaces that record use and changing daylight allow a space to become more personal rather than remain frozen at completion.
